Submarino follows Bela on the morning of her nineteenth birthday. Waking up alone and determined to get through another gray day, she prepares a small birthday ritual for herself with nothing more than a snack cake and a candle. But when an unexpected visitor arrives at her door, Bela's childhood best friend Paloma suddenly transforms the day into a celebration filled with laughter, dancing, wine, and memories of the friendship they once shared. As the two reconnect, however, small details begin to reveal that this reunion may not be as real as Bela wants it to be. When the music stops and the illusion begins to fade, Bela is left alone to confront the absence she has been trying to escape—and finally make her birthday wish.
